Taxi at CDG

We will be taking a taxi at CDG to the Left Bank Paris. I understand there is a flat rate of 55euros now so what will the rate be for 4 people with luggage?
Thank you

No tip needed / required / expected.

Was thinking of rounding it up to 60 euros That seems fair

The driver would be overjoyed to get a tip of 5 EU, but about half that would make him feel just as happy. You have to remember that tipping norms are not at all the same in Paris as where you live.

I think we should have a tip bucket here on Fodor´s as a way for those of you who like to tip to show your appreciation to those who work hard dispersing their knowledge.

Sarastro - I think you might be confusing Fodor's with TripAdvisor...

<<Was thinking of rounding it up to 60 euros That seems fair>>

Was thinking "I'll show them I'm American."

Cathinjoetown Sep 11th, 2016 10:58 AM

If the driver helps with the bags of FOUR people at your destination, many will not, I would certainly tip 5€ on a 55€ fare.

I've watched fairly closely, many French tip and even if they didn't, what difference does it make? Will they snicker at me behind my back? Will they know I'm an American? Despite a decent French accent, most French certainly know I'm not a native.

If a tip insults someone, they can hand it back, which has never happened to me in 45+ years of travel.

cornelius01 Sep 11th, 2016 11:44 AM

Some of you make me feel guilty for tipping 5 euros and no not trying to show them i am American just showing my appreciation unless the guy is a total jerk different story

Whathello Sep 11th, 2016 01:07 PM

Do as you like.

Speak (some) French too. It shows your appreciation of our culture.

When I am in the U.S. I tip.
When in france I don't.

When I make my expenses I need financial director to approve for the tips I gave. Because no bookkeeper in france will consider normal to tip.

cornelius01 Sep 11th, 2016 03:44 PM

Thank you Whathello and yes i do speak some French when in France as i don t expect the French to cater to me as i am in their Country and will tip according to service received.

Ha ha no it doesn't burn my fingers
I worked too hard to save it to visit La Belle France!

Whathello Sep 12th, 2016 06:20 AM

Does this french idiom translate the same way in english ?

cornelius01 Sep 12th, 2016 06:34 AM

Yes basically means money burns my fingers or as we say burns hole in our pockets! Be in France soon to spend some and tip frugally

Christina Sep 12th, 2016 08:51 AM

It isn't much of an idiom.

SOme people tip in France, also, BTW, including French people, including for taxis. It isn't as abnormal as some people seem to think.

Cathinjoetown Sep 12th, 2016 06:03 PM

Thank you, Christina.

Whathello Sep 12th, 2016 09:38 PM

As said numerous times we round up more than we tip.
I take taxis for about 100 euros I round up of about 2-3 euros.

If the driver is nice. I had one recently who did the minimum and I gave exactly the price indicated. 0 tip.
