Tapas in Málaga
Hello,
In a few months I'll be on a cruise that stops in Málaga just for the day. Could anybody recommend bar/ cafes for tapas ? What area of the city is better if you want to walk around and have a nice tapas lunch? Also, if there's something from a sightseeing point of view that is a must see, please let me know as well. Thanks! |
Hola cruiseluv! Málaga's not real big on tapas, more into small plates. We were there in early February and ended up having a few 'tapas' at the bar of El Pimpi on our first day.
One the second day we had lunch at Taberna Uvedoble (www.uvedobletaberna.com). Well worth the stop. One evening we stopped by Souvi (Souvi taperia Gastronomica), at Calle Afligidos, 3, which actually had some decent creative tapas. There's also the Mercado de La Merced, with several tapas bars. You can stop by Los Mellizos for some the more traditional seafood dishes, again small plates. Last year we had lunch at Restaurante La Cosmopolita, and Gorki's La Barra, Calle La Bolsa, 11. La Cocotte is also decent. |

Apart from all the usual which should be available with an easy google - taxi, bus, walk or elevator to the view, which may not have a mention, of the city from the Castilllo de Gibalfaro. |
Malaga has a great hammam called El Hammam Open Space & Spa. The Hammam Al Andalus isn't too bad either.

A couple of great tapas bars inside the central Atarazanas food market, close to the harbour. Loud, crowded and excellent food: http://eastofmalaga.net/2014/07/25/w...ry-perception/
Cafe Bar Mercado Atarazanas: http://azahar-spain.com/azahartapas/...do-atarazanas/ El Yerno: http://azahar-spain.com/azahartapas/el-yerno/ I can also recommend La Campana and traditional El Cortijo de Pepe. Both are in the heart of town: La Campana: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...Andalucia.html El Cortijo de Pepe: http://www.cortijodepepe.com/ http://www.yelp.com/biz/cortijo-de-pepe-malaga This link could also be useful: http://www.spain-holiday.com/Malaga-...bars-in-malaga |
Oh, thank you so much all of you for the fabulous and many recommendations. Robert, I figured I was wrong to use the term "tapas" for the region but wanted to convey small plates , so perfect! :)
Sparkchaser, have to confess I didnt know what a "hammam" was so I googled it. Thanks, learned something new! |
<I figured I was wrong to use the term "tapas" for the region>
Tapas is very much the right term to use in all of the Malaga region. http://www.andalucia.com/cities/malaga/tapas.htm The malagueños are called los boquerones, have them as a tapa in tapas bars all around town: http://lacocinamalaguena-alsurdelsur...n-vinagre.html I never leave Malaga without having had some Carne con tomate tapas: http://www.recetasdemama.es/2007/04/carne-con-tomate/ Porra, the Malaga version of the famous gazpacho, they serve it in most places as a tapa for some 1,50-2€: http://www.visitcostadelsol.com/thin...querana-p22371 You can have the Malaga pride Conchas finas as a tapa in most traditional seafood places in the region. http://lacocinamalaguena-alsurdelsur...e-limpian.html And the ensaladilla rusa tapa is everywhere: http://www.diariosur.es/20130908/loc...309080227.html The list could go on and on: http://devourmalagafoodtours.com/11-...you-cant-miss/ |
I would trust kimhe recommendations ... but if you fancy something different La Plaza next to El Pimpi (which is also often suggested but I haven't been)is a great place. When we were there they also had a range of British puddings. Eating Jam Roly Poly and Spotted Dick and custard in glorious sunshine is quite disorientating. Its in La Plaza Merced.

Thanks kimhe and stevelyon for the additional recommendations!
