Taormina, Sicily

We're driving around Sicily for 8 days: Is Taormina worth a stop? Any suggestions for wonderful, non-guide book listed locations or sites?

Thanks.

Go to www.dogpile.com and type in Taormina,Sicily. This is a great search engine! We loved just walking around the old town inside the castle area. There are also some interesting ruins nearby that we did not get to see. The view from the town is wonderful! I would love to have spent longer there!

Absolutely worth a visit.... probably the prettiest little town in Sicily!!!

If you are going in July or August just be prepared for the heat!

I always thought the two prettiest towns in Italy were supposed to be Positano and Portofino, and I had been to both and liked them. Then I went to Taormina and was blown away. It is beautiful. This summer we will spend a little over a month in Italy, purposely avoiding any place we've been before, with the exception of Taormina which we will make a repeat visit to.

Add my vote to going to Taormina! I have been there twice, unfortunately just for the day, and loved it!!!!! I'm sure that at night is probably more of a special place, when the hordes of tourists from the cruise ships ( like myself!) leave.
