Where is the best place to be up on the city or close to the beach?

Up in the city, unless you want to be sitting by the beach most of the time. It is nice to walk around the city just outside your hotel door. And easier to return to at night. And better views.

I would definitely stay on the main street in taormina. we were staying at a hotel outside the town walls and were kicking ourselves. i forget the name of the hotel but there is a hotel that looked nice (and resonably priced) on the main street. i'll get back to you with the name...on the tip of my tongue...this is going to kill me!<BR>
