Tallya Hungary advice needed

I want to drive from Budapest to Tallya and want to know if there is anyplace to stay overnight in Tallya or en route. I want to
do a "root" search and want to spend at least a day in Tallya. Any help would be appreciated.

bckay: I couldn't find Tallya on my Hungarian Map, but I went to viamichelin.com and found that it is 16 miles from Tokaj. Tokaj is a neat little Hungarian village with good Inns and restaurants and would be an easy drive to Tallya. We have been to Tokaj and thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you have any interest in wine, it is a major wine growing area in Hungary noted for (of course) Tokaj, a dessert wine. But, the wine growing goes well beyond just the dessert wine and the local coop (town center) offers one of the best wine tasting experiences we have had in Europe.
At Tokaj, you are not too far from Eger and/or Sarospatak, both of which are neat destinations.
This whole area is an easy drive from Budapest. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. Where did you stay in Tokaj or in Sarospatok? Where did you rent a car? I am finding that they are very expensive.

bckay: We did Sarospatak as a day trip from Tokaj. In Tokaj we stayed at a small inn over a pizza restaurant, Makk Marci Panzio; cute, nice rooms, center of the village. Don't overlook Eger.

How did you make the reservation for Tokaj? Did you do it there or before you got there? Where did you reserve the car? Where did you stay in Budapest? Any suggestions welcome

We made our reservations by FAX, 47/352-336. In November, you could probably go without reservations and check around to see what you like.
We always at least check autoeurope.com. You will find very favorable comments about this rental firm on this board. Good service and competative prices.
In Budapest, we have stayed twice at a little Inn in the Watertown District; just below the castle and an easy walk to the Chain Bridge. The Inn is the Astra Vendeghaz built around a court in a 300 year old building. It has been beautifully renovated. The rooms are large with hardwood floors and oriental rugs and the furniture and draperies are classical Hungarian. We love this place. It is moderate (about $125 per night) with a good breakfast and excellent, friendly service. If you inquire here, try to get the room on the far corner of the Inn across from the childrens' preschool. Exquisite and we loved watching the children with our morning coffee. They only have street parking, but it is monitered at all times with close circuit cameras. We love this place.

If you do a search on Astra Vendeghaz, you will come up with several agencies that can book this Inn.
