Tallinn - Any Advice?
 

Hi All <BR> <BR>Some of you may have read/ reaplied to my recent post about Sorrento in April... many thanks to those who did. <BR> <BR>However it now looks as Sorrento is on hold till maybe October 2001 for various reasons... <BR> <BR>So we thought we would go instead to Tallinn for a city break on the weekend end March/ start April 2001. <BR> <BR>Any feedback on Tallinn would be appreciated... <BR> <BR>What hotels did you stay in/ recommend? <BR>Where did you eat? Any particularly special ones? <BR>How many days do you think once could spend in Tallinn? <BR>Is March/ April too cold to visit there? We are from England so are used to a little chill but if it is rainy season might avoid it! <BR> <BR>What were your favourite things to see? <BR> <BR>Many thanks for your help, as always. <BR> <BR>Kavey

Try the Estonian Tourist Board's site (www.tourism.ee). Estonian Air flies direct from Gatwick, or you can go on Buzz etc to Helsinki and get the ferry. Lonely Planet have "Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania"; Bradt publishes "Estonia". I've not been yet - it's on my hitlist...

Hi All <BR> <BR>Thanks for the help and to those of you who emailed me also. <BR> <BR>Having looked at the excellent World Climate www recommended by Ben and seen that March April temperature in Tallinn is minus 3 degrees C we have decided to go back to the original plan... <BR> <BR>Sorrento in early spring and Tallin in August. <BR> <BR>Also have a long weekend to France in May which I am planning now and a safari in June so will be asking for more advice from all you experts again soon. <BR> <BR> <BR>Many thanks <BR>Kavey

At my second visit the air was champagne, and people smiled in the streets. I mean to go back next year, to look at our European Union neighbours to be. They are European the way the Swedes or the Dutch are European. <BR> <BR>Now, more practical for you. Like Edinburgh, Tallinn is two cities in one, the upper Hansa city and the lower general city. Each alone would be worth a stay. Tallinn is rich in fine buildings, like Prague, but smaller and hillier. In those days I ate well and the coffee was good. They had a number of museums, each worth time, but as in Lviv or Eger the main pleasure was wandering about and stopping for good coffee. They have two great living composers, Arvo Paart and Veljo Tormis, and greater than these is their devotion to choir works and good organs. <BR> <BR>Ben Haines <BR> <BR>
