Talk to me about Torino
We are spending four days in Torino in April and the new Rick Steves guidebook I got has ZERO info about it!
Anyone been there recently? We are thinking to poke around, see the Fiat museum and the cinema, maybe try to hike somewhere... If you have an Italy guidebook with a section on Torino, please advise. I need to return the Rick Steves one and don't want to keep buying books and returning (we don't have a bookstore close by so I have to rely on Amazon.) TIA! |
I haven’t been to Torino( Turin) but have stayed in other parts of the Piemonte region. It is a wonderful area to visit, a wine region that is much less crowded than Tuscany. We stayed in Alba and visited many of the small nearby wine villages, Barolo, Barbaresco, Nieve,La Morra, Monforte di Alba.
Rick Steves guide books have never been comprehensive for a region rather focus on where his tours go. Buy a Fodors or Cadogan guide book for this area. Blue Guide has one too. |

TIA! There have been some recent threads about Torino here, so do a search. You’ll find some good trip reports too. I was in Torino 4+ years ago. Beautiful, elegant city with great food and lots to see. Enjoy. |
Hi OverIt, Here's my brief and aged TR about Turin for ideas. Maitaitom has a good one if you want to do a search.

Tourism board: Turismo Torino. The ancient Abbey of the Sacra di San Michele can be reached in 2 hours walking to the top of the hill into the woods.
There are many daily direct trains between Turin's Porta Susa station and Alba, but you need a car to visit the Langhe wine country around Alba. |
Thank you so much everyone.
Will have to save the wine for another time (but one of my favorite wines is from the Langhe region). Lots to read! |
we will also be in turin for 3 days in june and then head to langhe region. lonely planet is good for this area. please report back!

Chapters Ten through Seventeen of my 2018 trip report highlight our time in Piemonte and Turin. We loved our time there.
