Taking tour to Berlin from cruise ship
We are booked on a Baltic cruise next August that will stop in Warnemunde, Germany for 14 hours, I have seen old posts that say it is not worth the time and cost to travel to Berlin since that is not enough
time to see the city. I would like to know if anyone has taken a tour from the cruise ships to Berlin, if so what tour company did you use and did you think it was worth it. IF you did not travel to Berlin what did you do in Warnemunde while the ship was dock? Any suggestions for the port of call would be greatly appreciated. |
I did the train trip into Berlin from Warnemunde using the ship's tour and I was quite happy with the way the day went. This was years ago and at that time the contrast between east and west was very evident and that has always stood out in my mind. Unless you think you will be back on a land based tour I would not miss this opportunity to get to Berlin. Expect it to be a very long day. If you are not ship tour folks you might check into SPB or Alla tours. I believe they use a van or coach. (Also much less expensive than ship's tour)
PS, I have a Baltic cruise booked for May 2018 and I will be going into Berlin again, this time with SPB. |
You might want to look for a copy of Rick Steves' "Northern European Cruise Ports", which will cover Warnemunde and what to do there/from there.

We did that trip this year. We booked with SPB Tours (Excellent, highly recommend) The ride was in a Mercedes van, quite comfortable. The scenery is nice. We had about 6 or 7 hours in the city, if I remember. Brief stop at Olympic Stadium. Toured Kaiser Wilhelm church, Brandenburg Gate. Plenty of time in the Holocaust Memorial (one of the highlights of the trip for me), Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie. Reichstag was fascinating. We walked right past Angela Merkel's apartment, only one officer visible outside! The trip also included a lovely lunch at an outdoor cafe. Our guide was a spirited young American ex-pat and she definitely added to the tour. It was a long day, but probably my only opportunity to see Berlin, and I didn't want to miss it.

mcheryl, about how long did it take to get to
Berlin in the van? I appreciate your letting me know about your experience, I'll check into SPB tours. |

Three hours drive, six hours tour, three hours drive. At least, that's the SPB plan. |
