riesling, I think we benefited from the 7 plane back up in the customs hall. They were just trying to get us through. Last time declaring the foie gras got my bags xrayed!
annhig, sometimes I think the customs agents are 'shopping' for certain items. They swear they destroy everything but you have to wonder.
Nikki, we talked about using the French children's books as a method for learning French. Yes we would speak childish French but how is that worse than our 'pidgen' French.

Thanks, cigalechanta. I knew by the spelling that it was from the Basque country. I haven't yet exhausted all of my retail options in this area, so hopefully won't have to resort to online (expensive to ship wine last time I did it).
Regarding customs agents, I just wish they would be consistent! I don't think that's too much to ask.

Sounds so great...we adore Le Comptoir! And, always stop at Maille (and I am too stingy with the mustard all year, trying to making it last when I should just buy more) and we so enjoyed St Denis last year!
It is always so fun to read the T/Rs and have those great shared experiences, isn't it?
And YankyGal...YES! I have missed out on buying things b/c I can't be sure it won't be confiscated.

I think that if customs agents were consistent it would take all the fun out of their jobs. I am sure there is a blog for agents where they post what they confiscated that day. A friend had a box of peaches confiscated at the Canadian border because the agent said they were citrus fruit. Dumb or crazy like a fox?

What a nice surprise to see Irouleguy mentioned. We usually don't order wine with a meal because I think it numbs my tastebuds for the food, but I like Irouleguy so much that when I see it on a wine list, I always order it.
AGM, catching up on your trip reports is making me very hungry. That's a sign of an excellent trip report.
