Taking bus at Barcelona Nord / Sant Station

Hi, my husband and I am considering to take Alsa or Euroline bus from Barcelona Nord / Sant station to Avignon in this summer. We would like to take a night bus departing from Barcelona Nord/Sant station at 1:40am and arriving at Avignon in the morning. What we concern is the environment and safety issue of waiting for the bus at Barcelona Nord/Sant at the mid-night, e.g. how's the surrounding of the station, will there many passengers wait for the bus. We are warned by many people about travelling in Barcelona for robbery and other crimes, and esp worry about taking this bus trip at mid-night.

Appreciated if any travellers can share the experience of this bus trip or the surrounding of the bus station for our further consideration.

Thanks!

We have stayed four nights in a hotel right next to Barcelona Sants (Hotel Torre Gran Catalunya). The area is a mix of residential/offices. When we were there, there were always people on the street and at the station. Even late at night, although we didn't make it that late. I thought the area was pretty safe.

You could look into taking a room at the Gran Hotel, or the Barcelo (which is alos rigth next to the station). from there you can walk to the bus at the latest minute possible. Rates are generally good and the hotel is really great!

Just to clarify, Sants and Nord are 2 different locations, far far away from each other. Sants is the main railway station that is west of city center and Nord is a bus terminal close to Arc de Triomf, east from the Plaça Catalunya.
