Tahiti/Bora-Bora
 

Hello, has anyone been to Bora-Bora? My fiance and I are thinking of honeymooning there if we don't get married in Positano, Italy. I'd like to know when is the best time to go and must do activities. My fiance would just like to lie around the whole day and do nothing.
Please let me know your experience(s). Thanks in advance.

Oops! this should have been posted under "Australia & South Pacific" heading instead of the europe heading. Suggestions still welcome. Honeymoon in Amalfi Coast or honeymoon in Bora-Bora???

That's a hard choice. I love Bora Bora but fear it's in danger of losing much of its charm if hotel developers aren't controlled. Newer, bigger hotels crop up every year. Still, there is a great deal of natural beauty and you could stay at one of the resorts on a motu, like the Bora Bora Lagoon Hotel. If you want to relax on a beach, snorkle or scuba, then Bora Bora is the choice. If you want to do some touring of historic sites like Pompeii and visit different small towns, then the Amalfi Coast would be the better choice, keeping in mind that the beaches along the Amalfi Coast are nothing like Bora Bora's.

We spent 5 days in Bora Bora for our honeymoon flying back from New Zealand. The island is absolutely beautiful. There is not a whole lot to do, so it is definitely a place where you would go for serious R&R. The island pretty much shuts down after 9:00 p.m. and you can drive entirely around it in 20 minutes.
However, if you are considering French Polynesia you may want to look into staying at another island for part of the trip. Bora Bora is extremely expensive. We knew that going in and didn't mind splurging for our honeymoon but once we were there we felt that what we got wasn't worth what we were paying for it. We stayed at the Hotel Bora Bora which was very nice but again, we felt like we could have gotten a lot more for $900/night elsewhere. I am definitely planning to go back to French Polynesia but probably wouldn't go back to Bora Bora again. As the previous poster mentioned, there is a lot of development going on and you can probably find a lot of the remote charm and natural beauty on one of the other islands and not have to deal with the pretentious prices that we felt were expensive just for the sake of being expensive.

Have you also considered Walla Walla, Pago Pago or NY,NY?
