Szentendre
Can anyone tell me if the shops and restaurants in Szentendre are open on Sunday? Is it worth going?

We went on a Sunday and almost everything was open. The train out of Budapest was really crowded because of all the people going to vist family, or just have a day out.
|
Surely is open on Sunday. It is a touristy yet charming place, just a boat ride away from Budapest.

Whether it's worth going depends on how you do with hordes of tourists. Although you could shake most of them by walking a little way off the main streets.

I'm pretty sure I visited on a Sunday, but I can't be 100%certain. What a lovely visit it was, though. Yes, I would recommend strolling the streets and peeking in the shops.
While there, I talked to someone who had visited a wonderful miniature museum there. I'm afraid I don't have any more information on the museum than that and it's really not a lot to go on, but the woman praised it so highly that I remembered her comments. |
It is picturesque but crowded - more or less one big souvenir shop. See http://www.sitestory.dk/rejser/donau2006/3e.htm for my impression and a few photos.

Yes things are open on Sunday - get there a bit early and you'll miss some of the crowds. I agree with Eric it is very olde gifte shopee

Hi Eric,
I took a look at your photos and was lured to read through your Danube cruise travelogue. Very nice indeed. You have a refreshingly candid way of recording your observations, and coaxing a smile or a chuckle from the reader with your quiet humour. ("...more wool was needed [for the post-fashion show sale items to fit prospective buyers]..." :) ) Good job. I've visited Budapest 3 times in 3 years - its one of my favourite cities - but now think Szentendre to be too touristy for my liking. |
