Syracuse and Taormina shopping
I am traveling to Syracuse, noto, Ragusa, Taormina in Sicily next week. I like to buy handmade crafts and jewelry from local artists. I found shops in Palermo but I will not get to Palermo this trip. Does anyone have tips on such places in the cities I mention for local crafts, jewelry or art?

There are many lovely shops on Ortigia [the island off Siracusa] but I don't remember anything which specifically meets your needs. Taomina is also full of shops, many of them very touristy, though I managed to purchase a lovely hand made collage of the Basilica di San Marco in Venice there, so you never know what you will find. Really they are all charming places and I would be surprised if you don't find some things that you like. Your hotels may well know of places that they can recommend and they will have the most up to date information.

In Taormina, Corso Umberto is the main shopping street. On the left side heading south there is a lovely ceramic shop and the pieces are created there, .Kerameion .It stands out among all the shops as most are very touristy and this shop is not.
We were glad we only stayed in Taormina two nights but wished we had more than a week on Ortigia. |
