I am looking for hotel suggestions for double room, private bath, around 80E or less per night for Feb 2005 for the following cities:

Zurick
Milan
Venice
Florance
Rome

We plan on using public transportation to get to and from our hotels.

That will be very tough--those are all expensive cities. Look at venere.com, but be sure to spell the cities correctly---Zurich, Florence

In Venice I recommend the Albergo Marin.

It's a five minute walk from the train station in a very quiet street. We were there in mid-November, had a very clean double with private bath (well, shower actually)and WC for 70 euros including light breakfast.

You won't need public transportation unless yr bags are very heavy. Just walk over the Scalzi bridge and you are almost there. And if you can't make it over the bridge, there is a traghetto right across from the station.
