Switzerland to Lake Como by train

Does anyone know if it is easier, faster to go from Geneva to Lake Como by train or to go from Zermatt to the Lake? Would one route offer more magnificent views?

Which is more touristy: Maggiore or Como? I'd like the less touristy of the two, but still want things to do. Going at end of June for 2-3days.

Any apartments in Como or Maggiore? Thank you so much!

From Geneva AND from Zermatt the rail route would be identical: through Brig and the Simplon Tunnel then on to Milan with a change there.

This would overall probably be the easiest route depending on exactly where on Lake Como you wished to end up.

Lago Maggiore and Lago di Como are both touristy. Even though I was there a month ahead of you in May, on every boat, I was with several tour groups. But do you really want to make a decision on that criteria? Many places are touristy because they have something of interest to many people.
