When it comes to food, not much beats Spain. 10 Spanish restaurants among top 100 in the prestigious S.Pellegrino world's best restaurants list: http://www.theworlds50best.com/'

The small Basque region alone, with only four million people, have four and twice as many among top 21 than both US, UK, and France (all got two each). And the best about the food culture in the small Basque country is not the about 40 Michelin star restaurants, but the quality of the food in any place you happen to walk into: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/de...y-for-foodies/

And Spanish and French elites have come here in the summer months for more than 150 years because of the pleasant summer climate. http://www.euskoguide.com/places-bas...stian-tourism/

"Why are you carrying on about writers and Nobel prizes, when someone asks a simple question about where to travel on their vacation?2

You are completely right. With my last post, I just wanted to show how stupid it is to define the degree of civilisation of a country with the help of Nobel prizes.

As to the initial question, there is no doubt that the weather in Mediterranean Spain (not in the North West of the peninsula, however) is warm and sunny in August whereas in Switzerland, everything, even snowfall in the mountains, is possible.
