Switzerland, Lucerne, Lugano Accommodations Needed

We are a party of 6 planning a trip to Germany and Switzerland in Sept. next year.

We plan on staying in Lucerne (1 day) and Lugano (1 day). We are experiencing difficulty finding good quality and reasonably priced accommodations.

The same problem is evident in Munich 1 day).

There are so many things to see in the guide books for these three spots. We could sure use some help deciding which are the best.

If you have been there we would sure appreciate any suggestions you might have for our trip.

Thank you in advance. Ed & Mona.

Good quality and reasonably priced accomodations should be easy in Lucerne. If on the other hand you mean good quality at really cheap prices, that is another story. I have stayed several times in Lucerne at Hotel des Alpes, right on the river and just across the bridge from the train station. If you are traveling by train the location couldn't be better. Nice hotel, very reasonably priced.

I think Lugano is more difficult. Sorry, no good recommendations for there.

I stayed at Hotel Krone this summer. It's right in the middle of the old town at the Weinmarket. Its' a Best Western if I remember correctly. Very charming outside, but clean and modern on the inside. It offered a wonderful breakfast included in the price. Hotels in Lucerne are expensive and this was very moderate in comparison.

hi ed and mona--this past summer I stayed in Luzern. we lucked out at a hotel called the hotel alpha. very close to the train station, clean and quiet. I think around 90$ for the two of us which included a big breakfast. Hope this helps.
Sarah

We went to Germany and Switzerland for 10 days in September of this year. We stayed for one night in Munich at the Europaiser Hof for 88 Euros. Nice hotel, but does not look anything like the internet pictures - about 20 years older!
In Lucerne we stayed at the Hotel Baslertor (100 Euro/night)which I would recommend (www.baslertor.ch). Right next to the river, you can hear it rushing from outside! Dinner is not cheap though in Lucerne so plan accordingly.
If I had to do it again, with only one day in Munich, I would have rather extended my stay in Lucerne.
Have a great trip!
