Switzerland in December

We'd like to spend a week during Christmas in Switzerland but don't even know where to begin our research. What city would you suggest to get a true feel of the holidays while there? It will be just the 2 of us...

Well - do you want a city or a resort in the mountains? (You might not even have snow in some of the major cities, since they're in the lowlands.)

An area that's all lit up for the holidays-with old world charm-not modern glitz/glamour. Thanks!

Hi bryarsmom,

You'll have to go to a city for holiday decorations. Most folks in the mountain villages do not put on displays at that time and rather consider it a personal and family time. I spent one Christmas at Gstaad, and all that was out was one fat Santa!

I've heard that Zürich, Luzern, and Basel are particularly festive at Christmas.

Have fun!

We were sonme years ago in December in Interlaken, and from there we were in mountains (Murren, etc) Gstaadt and Lucerne.
However, the decoration is minimal.

For holiday decorations and the vacation atmoshere, I would go to Germany.
