switzerland in august

Hello, we are traveling to Switzerland next week and plan to do it as a road trip.
We are going 2 nights to St. Moritz, 2 nights to Andermatt, 2 nights to Lausanne and 2 nights to Basel.
We have 2 teenagers (18 and 17 and a 6-year old). We looked at the weather forecast for the days in St Moritz and Andermatt and it seems it will be raining/stormy every day. Can anyone suggest fun activities to do indoors in case weather is bad please? thanks. Denisse

currently, mainly looks bad Tu-Thursday. St Moritz is mainly an outdoors place unless you like gambling or shopping.

They do have a film theater, though

one minor art museum, but Basel has plenty of museums, which you probably know

St Moritz also depends on which hotel you are in as some have indoor/outdoor pools but I would agree that other than shopping it really is an "outdoors" place.

Rainy weather in forecast. What to do with 2 teenagers and a 6 year old in St. Moritz and Andermatt??

Wear raincoats?

Have a nice little Come to Jesus meeting with those three kids and remind them that the family acts as a unit and then ask THEM for suggestions. You might be surprised. That cableway in St. Moritz will run in the rain, for example.

Thanks for responding. We are staying at Badrutts Palace, but we are not into shopping, gambling or indoor pools. any suggestions for day trips in the area? we will have a car to move around and like to drive.

From Lausanne you could visit the castle at Gruyere? And/or Chateau de Chillon?

denisse21 Aug 4th, 2016 03:55 PM

yes we are planning to visit Gruyere and Chillon. thanks. :)
In Andermatt there seems to be a bit more to do indoors, like the Sasso di San Gottardo and mining for crystals as well as a Furka train ride.

For St Moritz I cannot find so many indoor options so we may drive for the day to the italian side if weather is bad, what do you think? I liked Dukey1's idea of the cable car in St Moritz, will look into that.

Can anyone recommend their favorite places for lunch and dinner in: St Moritz, Andermatt, Laussanne and Basel areas? We like informal good local food to go with the kids.
thanks
