Switzerland Hotels
Hi -
Would love hotel suggestions for 30 year old couple in these cities... not sure yet if we'll go to all of them. * = definite * Lausanne Montreux Zermatt Zurich Lucerne * Geneva Thank you! |
What time of year will you be traveling? Are you 'heat tolerant' if in summer?
Note most non chain hotels in Switzerland either have no AC or weak AC (by American standards anyway). Do you want to be IN the city or town, where nighttime noise can be a factor, or would you prefer a greener location on the edge/outside of town? How will you be traveling (may limit accessibility)? |
travel in June. A night in the city is fine. otherwise in small towns

What is your nightly budget - a specific amount, not moderate or whatever.

In Lausanne we stay at the Tulip Hotel Beaulieu. It is in a quiet neighborhood but within walking distance to the downtown area as well as restaurants. Lausanne is a lot of walking up and down hills!! Tulip Hotel does provide guests with a free bus pass during their stay.
While in Zurich we currently opt to stay at the Movenpick near the airport. That said, I can recommend the Seidenhof Hotel which is just off the Bahnhofstrasse. We have stayed here many times. You can walk to a huge selection of restaurants and shopping. There is also the Zurich Marriott, a short walk to the Banhnhofstrasse and main bahnhof (train station). I hope you have time for Lucerne! It has the iconic mountain and lake views. We opt for basic here, as we like to be near the lake. The Ibis Styles and the Ambassador Hotel are both acceptible and provide a pretty good breakfast. Location is excellent in my opinion. I travel to Switzerland 2-3 times a year and have stayed in the above hotels very recently. Switzerland is one very expensive destination, but so worth it. Enjoy your trip! |
Hotel advice now needed for Lucerne ad Geneva. Set for hotels in Lausanne
Montreux and all others will be day trips. Thank you |
The Ibis Lausanne is very good value for Switzerland prices and includes breakfast. We paid $185AUD a night in late 2014. We stayed for 5 nights and found it a good base for day trips.
It's a 5 min tram ride from the main station (stop is only 1-2mins walk away) and 5 mins walk into the shopping areas. Hotel is fairly basic but adequate. |
Lausanne. I can think of several (more upscale than those already mentioned) but if you are already decided I will not offer any alternatives.

Luzern: consider the Des Balances
