Switzerland Hotel/Wengen or Vitznau

For a family vacation with young teenagers would you recommend Park Hotel Vitnau or Hotel Regina or Alpenrose-Wengen?

Alpenrose

Hello Danaedward,

These are both great destinations and your hotel choices seem to be very nice! I think the PH Vitznau is a five-star, but I don't know if it's one of the formal, stuffy kind. I know the Regina in Wengen is a four-star and its brochure & website look a bit upscale. I still think the Alpenrose will have the comfortable, easy-going, family atmosphere more appropriate for a family-type vacation.

But I think you can help to narrow down your choices by considering these locations. Both Vitznau and Wengen are relatively isolated and both have stunning landscapes. But if you want to spend most of your time enjoying pure stunning rugged mountain scenery, head to Wengen; if you want to spend most of your time enjoying a mix of stunning lake and mountain scenery, go with Vitznau.

Good luck making this decision!

How long are you planning to stay. Will you spend the whole time in one place? Why not a few days at Wengen and a few days at Vitznau? Are you planning on going to Lucerne? There's a lot to do in Lucerne. I'm concerned that the kids might be a bit bored at Vitznau, unless you were planning to use it as a base for touring the region. Will you be driving or taking public transportation? Riding the trains can be great fun. It's all wonderful, though, so you can hardly go wrong.

Thank you for the information. We will be flying into Geneva at 7:00 at night. We thought about taking the train directly that night but maybe it would be better to train the next day so we could see the scenery. We have 3 full days not including travel days and we fly home from Zurich. Any suggestions?
