You are in Sevilla while the May Crosses festival goes on in Cordoba 40 mins away with the high speed AVE Train. Perhaps make it an extra day down here for this? An opportunity to go under the skin of things and experience the food, wine, music, dance and fiesta spirit:

well unless you can avoid steep drop-off fees yes - even then for the places you are going cars are rather useless and the train system - forget buses except perhaps from Milan's airport to Switzerland. Sit back and watch the scenery not have your eyes peeled to a sinuously twisting highway in much of this Alpine terrain.
