As of now we are thinking Lauterbrunnen or Wengen. From where we can cover Jungfrau and other beautiful places>

Wengen - if over 35 a good choice if younger I'd take Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen IF you are looking to have an apres-hiking scene - neat little bars with lots of younger hikers - Wengen is great for folks who like solitude. To me Grindelwald offers the finest views of any hill town - though Wengen's is sure nice too. Laugterbrunnen is in a deep valley so the views are of canyon walls and waterfalls all framed by high mountains. You cannot go wrong.

Can you please suggest a 3 days Itinerary for Wengen...as of now we are thinking one day trip to Interlaken & one day trip to jungfraujoch...But my question is jungfraujoch from Wengen will take one complete day or we can utilize the day for some other attractions. Still we are having the 3rd day with us ?? Any suggestion ....Please please some help !!!!

I don't really think it'll take all day to see Interlaken -- maybe a full morning or afternoon to get lost in the backstreets. You can think of taking a lake cruise to Thun or to Spiez and stroll around those towns, too, on that day.

Many people like to get off onto one of the easy walking trails so that you really get into the countryside. Don't confine yourself to man-made things! There are lots of threads here about easy and flat walks.

Jungfrau from Wengen - is to me about 3-4 hours or an easy half day. I would spend my time elsewhere than Interlaken on a day trip - yes transit thru it, look around a bit from a day onb Lake Thun, stopping at Oberhofen and its neat castle, Spiez and perhaps Thun would be great as would a day out on Lake Brienz - these3 are something besides mountains.

Still we are having the 3rd day with us ?? Any suggestion>

Ok in conjunction with the Jungfraujoch trip on that same day you can do the famous Ridge Walk from Kleine Schiedegg (where the Jungfraujoch train ends) to Mannlichen - this is the most raved about walk - stroll not a hike - fairly flat wide path even baby carriages are seen on - of a few miles to the Mannlichen, one of the most raved about viewpoints in the whole area - lovingly down over Interlaken wedged between its two lakes and over the whole of central Switzerland - incredible view. Return to Wengen from the Mannlichen by aerial cable car.

Well I would recommend a short look at Interlaken - get off the busy main drag to a rather dreamy Swiss town IME at least and take a day going around either Lake Thun or Lake Brienz - the two lakes bookending Inter(between)-Laken(the lakes) - Lake Thun is a great trip - get off at Oberhofen - a nice town with a castle of your dreams hovering over the lake - nice strolls and lots of neat places to have lunch or tea or a beer!

Then re-board another boat and get off at Thun, a really underrated city simply IMO because it is literally in the shadow of both the Jungfrau area and Bern, one of the nicest cities in Europe IMO (and another easy day trip from Wengen) - then take the train or boat to Spiez which is a neat smaller city with the finest castle anyway in the area brooding high above the lake - take the boat or train back to Interlaken-Wengen - a great day out - a Swiss Pass covers everything in full!

thanks for the thanks - and a day out of Lake Brienz can be fantastic as well - these boats leave from right behind Interlaken-Ost train station (where you end up coming down from Wengen) - take a boat first to Geissbach Falls stop and hop the antique funicular up to the famous falls and hotel-restaurant by them.

re-board the next of the fairly frequent boats and go to Brienz - take a look around this town known for its intricate wood carvings on houses and then either hot a ride on the Brienzer Rothorn steam train that takes you to the summit high above the lake for fantastic views - I walked back down to the lake on foot paths - or from Brienz take a postal bus to the famous Ballenberg Open-Air Museum overlooking the lake - or from Brienz take a train to

Meiringen - home of meringue - the sweet treat and a nice town - check out its Sherlock Holmes Museum and take a bus or walk the few miles to nearby Reichenbach Falls - the famous huge cascading falls where on a platform in the middle of the falls Sherlock Holmes and Prof Moriarity famously had a fatal tangle with the evil Prof presumably drowning

or from Meringen take the train to the also famous Glacier Gorge, a narrow chasm in the cliffs you walk thru on catwalks.

Return to Interlaken from any of these places by train.

Lots and lots of options for a day out on Lake Brienz and if you have a Swiss Pass everything is covered 100% - trains, boats, funicular to the falls, postal bus to Ballenberg and even the $20 or so entry to Ballenberg Museum!

OK just to add to this, Wengen is simply a gorgeous spot, hotel will do pick up from train, call when there for pick up, and it is a small village, must do at least 2 and better 3 nights there. The hiking is awesome, lift is right in the town, very close to center of small village, up to the Mannlichen and a plateau area with the Jungfrau/Monch hovering over the area. My son hiked all up in there and loved the cows in nearby areas and along some hiking paths. Also I did spend 2 nights in Zermatt in July this year and altho touristy, it is an interesting place with the Matterhorn hovering over. Check out the Omni Hotel, which is very unique, bring $$$, but very nice location, James Bond sort of entrance in mountain. Interesting little museum across from hotel, with history of Zermatt ad terrible accident portrayed on 2nd floor, sort of underground museum, and cemetery across the street with climbers graves/pik axes, etc. Sue
