Switzerland-2 Weeks in October

Hi,
(this is a re-post of a previous message...with a better title!)

We're doing 2 weeks in Switzerland in October. We have complete flexibility but would like to pick one or two places as "bases" from which to explore. Maybe rent houses in those locations rather than do the hotel thing.

We prefer smaller towns and villages as compared to bigger cities. Also, it would be great to find places on a pretty lake or river.

Any suggestions for towns/areas I can research?
Thanks,
David

Hi Davidjhonda,

Pretty hard to help you -- almost all of Switzerland would fit your requirements!

To get you started --

Lake Thun or Lake Brienz, near Interlaken, are dotted with small towns and villages and have the stunning mountains as a backdrop. I don't have my maps with me, but do a google search for the smaller towns & villages.

Of course, Lake Luzern would be a great choice, too, with its huge lake system. Look for the villages of Weggis or Vitznau.

Lake Geneva would be warmer in October, nearly ideal weather. You could look at Morges, Vevey, or Montreux.

Hope this helps get you started!

Lucerne sounds perfect for what you are looking for - it looks like a postcard there it's so pretty. You can easily day trip to Engelberg from there as well (up in the mountains) and visit ice caves, etc. There is also a chair lift with great views.
