Switzerland

I'm traveling to Basel Switzerland on Business and will have a free weekend. Looking for ideas on what to do. Would like something structured, like a tour, so I don't just awkwardly wander around on my own. Thinking of maybe traveling to another city, like Paris or Rome, on Saturday, spending the night, then coming back Sunday, if I could find a tour somewhere.

Or I could travel to Lucerne or somewhere else in Switzerland. I've been to Basel several times and Germany as well, but never anywhere else in Europe.

Any ideas?

The Berner Oberland---the best of the Swiss Alps.

I personally would head to Lucerne, just 75 minutes away by train. Depending upon what time of the year you are traveling, you could take a cruise on the lake, walk the town ramparts/towers, perhaps ascend Mt. Pilatus if whether permits. If you check the town's website, I'd bet there are introductory tours around this very scenic town as well....

In fact, if you REALLY want the comfort of a tour, the Tourist Info office in the corner of the Luzern main train station can turn you on to many options. Only thing is, you usually have to wait till that very morning to check weather to see if ascending Mt. Pilatus is "worth" it.

Another way to avoid "awkward wander[ing] around" on your own is to get a good guide book. You'll find all sorts of things to see and do!
