Switzerland - 1 week itinerary where to stay
We are a young couple flying to Geneva from Nice on Jul 18 (reaching 3p.m)
so far our itinerary is as follows 18 Jul - Geneva 19 Jul - Interlaken 20 Jul - Interlaken 21 Jul - Interlaken 22 Jul - Lucerne 23 Jul - Lucerne we plan to take the train from Lucerne to Venice on 24 Jul (morning train at 8 am) I wnated to know if the above itinerary seems fine to have a feel of Switzerland .Pleas efeel free to advise if we need to change any places. |
I'd suggest skipping Interlaken and heading further up into the alps - take a look at Lauterbrunnen, Wengen and Murren.
Interlaken is pretty enough, but it pales in comparision to the villages higher up. |
I agree with Melnq8. The villages of Murren and Wengen, or Lauterbrunnen valley in the Berner Oberland are just gorgeous locations. The Alps are spectacular and unforgettable. We stayed in both Murren and Wengen, and loved staying in Murren the most.

Hi aussietourist - agree with the above to go higher to Wengen or Murren.
We stayed in Wengen two years ago for four nights and will be there again mid July - this time in an apartment for a week! This is a great area and the region is simply stunning. Happy travels and planning. |
Not staying in Interlaken is a matter of choice, what are your plans while staying there? If you want to walk and enjoy the scenery then yes go somewhere like Wengen and Murren, both are car free villages, but there is the added time and cost of transportation via Interlaken. If you want to wnjoy the lakes then to me it makes sense to stay in Interlaken. Yes it a tourist town but to a lesser extent so is Grindelwald another possibility for accommodation. Please think as well about to Lucerne via the narrow gauge BRinig Line from Interlaken Ost, but where ever you stay enjoy the esperience
