Switz: The coldest winter since 1986
It's official! This is really a very cold winter. Where I live (950 meters elevation), we've had snow since beg. of December. And it's been oh so cold. Today we have a snow storm roaring outside! The mailman even comes by horse and sleigh (hobby: not necessity).
Next week it should start warming up a bit. |
Bonne chance Schuler, brr!
We have some snow in Dijon today with a lovely sunshine.((#)) |
That is wonderful news to my ears. I will be training through Switzerland later this month looking at all your beautiful scenery. I live in New England so the temperatures won't be a shock.
|
It is the same in Germany. Where my parents live (elevation 356 m, a few miles east of Dresden) they had snow on the ground since mid Nov. And no end in sight ... Today we had a big snowfall in Dresden (about 4 inches even in the city centre) and it took me about an hour longer to get to the office.

What are the chances that this might mean a cool June? Hi all. J.
|
98 degrees Farenheit here in Texas today. A little snow actually sounds good.
|
Schuler: Our school group is coming to your neck of the woods in a few weeks. Thanks for your suggestions a few weeks ago. If possible, I would like to meet with you. My email is [email protected] - if you like, you could join us for our yodelling lessons. Hope to hear from you soon.
p.s. sounds like we should bring our woolies! |
How about our classes meeting for a cultural exchange? I've got some Canada fans that would love to meet some real Canadians!
I've sent you an email. |
Ah, Schuler, I am consumed with jealousy! I am in Vienna at the moment and hoped to see some real snow, but it's barely an inch or so on the ground and only in some places. And at home in the UK, the best we can hope for in our area is the rare 5-minute flurry.
Would love to live somewhere in Europe with so much snow. Some people long to walk in the warm sun; I long to walk in the snow! |
schuler: "next week it should start warming up a bit".....my friends in Basel will gladly hold you to this. They're praying for nice weather Monday morning, a great "Morgestraich" and "drey scheeni Dääg" (carnival)
Greetings from a "Haimweh Basler Bebbi" in sunny Florida. ;-) |
Hello Everyone:
Cocofromdijon: Still shining in Dijon? We just received some more snow and it's still so cold. My kids were outside this morning sledding, making caves and just having fun in the snow. Barbara: Hope that it has warmed up by the time you come. I'm sure the snow will still be here (at least in the mountains) Ingo: 356 m and snow the whole winter!!!Wow! Looks like it will still be here for awhile. jmw: Last year was a fantastic June! Hope it will be again. twk: We rarely get those temperatures in summer! That is hot! BTilke: Having fun in Vienna? It's probably better when there's not too much snow. Cities tend to have problems with huge amounts of it. waggis: Isn't your name a figure at the Basler fasnacht? I was in three parades this Fasnacht as a Wäschwiiber. Love this tradition! |
Out of interest, just how cold is considered very cold in Switzerland?
I notice from weather reports that today's temperatures there are around 0 Celsius. |
Hi schuler, mostly sunny again today, and then just a few patches of snow left in the garden. Now I want Spring and nothing else![-(
|
Lav: Your right. It's not extreme. This morning the thermometer showed -8. But we've had this weather since beg. of December. And there's a cold wind blowing lately as well which makes it feel even colder.
My husband's outside using his snowblower. My son went to Winterthur Technorama today with his friend. They are now stuck in traffic outside of Zürich (probably due to new snow). Lots of new snow today. Great skiing (when you're not caught in a snowstorm.) But hey, we could have 98 F like in Texas. Now that's a long, hot summer! Coco: I'm with you! |
Schuler--I hope you'll comment on my Zurich cafe thread :)
|
I can't believe it is snowing again, a lot! :-( . We had 10°c yesterday, incredible!
Have a nice week end! :-) |
We are again in the middle of a snowstorm. It's going to be a long winter here. However, the roads are maintained incredibly well and we do need the moisture.
Now, if only the snow could wash away the bird flu! |
Here, the "water specialists" say snow is not enough for our water needs, it should rain 3 months in a row to get our normal water level back!
|
Hi Coco: I haven't heard anything lately about our water but I dare to say it's a similar situation.
What a great day to do household chores! |
Or more time on the internet! ;-)
Anyway I won't be able to get the car out of the garage, snowing, snowing, snowing... |
