Switching hotels in Santorini?

Hi everyone! Though I haven't posted any question before, I've absorbed lots lots of useful information here to plan my first trip to Greece in May. I just want to take this chance to thank everyone to share their experiences!

Part of my plan is to visit Santorini for 5 days/4nights and stay in Oia. After checking tons of hotels in Oia, I fall in love with many options, and can't decide on just single one to stay. I have a very greedy question - if it's practical to switch hotels during this short stay? I'm thinking to stay 2 nights in one place without sunset view, one place with sunset view. Yet to experience 2 different decoration styles. I know there are a lot of stairs involved to move around (but we mostly will travel lite), also it's easy to watch sunset almost anywhere in Oia. But just like to hear some feedback to see if it's something too crazy?!

Thanks in advance!

If that's what you want to do, why not? :-)

hi bearbe,

i don't think it's crazy at all. in fact, i recommend it. i stayed in santorini for a total of 5 nights in may 2009 and spent 2 nights in imerovigli [absolute bliss] and 3 nights in oia [ikies traditional houses]. i felt that by doing this, it helped me divide my time easier and for the most part, each day was walkable so spend we didn't waste money taking taxis or time taking public transportation.

in imerovigli, i was able to get a huge room with an indoor jacuzzi and outdoor jacuzzi on an enormous balcony for the almost the same amount of $ per night as the hotel in oia [although, i must say, i still enjoyed my stay in oia more]. but, during my stay in imerovigli, i focused on exploring fira and imerovigli [dinner @ selene, hiking on skaros rock, renting a buggy to red beach, etc]. and while in oia, we relaxed by the pool, explored the town, had a wine tasting at sigalas winery, and had wonderful meals at ambrosia and katina's taverna.

have a wonderful trip!

oh... i forgot to say what we got in oia: a very small but comfortable room and a small detached balcony that was a few steps away from our door.

There's certainly nothing wrong with that. In fact, if you're going to be staying in two different hotels, why not stay in two different towns? Perhaps Oia and Fira, Firostefani, or Imerovigli. That way you can experience both different styles and different sunsets.

citychicnyc, can you tell us more about your trip? The buggy and the hike it all sounded so great!
