Swiss Web Sites
OK, a thread was started on cool paris websites so lets start threads for other places as well.

Here is my favorite for Switzerland:

www.swissinfo.org

It has news, weather, travel information and it comes in several different languages. It has articles as well a video and sound.

|
If you read some German, you can use the largest Swiss search engine
www.search.ch
It has versions in French, Italian and English, but less detailled.

Anyway, Swiss home pages have Usually "ch" (Confederation Helvetique)at the end like in France "fr" or in Italy "it".

The Swiss phone books are online at
www.tel.search.ch
|
Maybe the best - - not based IN Switzerland - - is www.twenj.net

In remembrance of Ed...

Best wishes,

Rex
|
You are right - twenj.net is a great site but I'm looking for something Swiss and cool like the paris photo site: http://photos.pagesjaunes.fr/1/d/home_paris.htm

Or just anything you enjoy.

Hi Ronda, what a good idea. I don't have much time, but here are a few of my favorites:

region-du-leman.ch
lutry.ch
heimatwerk.ch
picswiss. ch

and many more. J.

thanks for cool sites.

Very recently, I found this site which will be real cool once finished. Description of different Swiss towns in different languages.
So far, only Zurich seems available and that one is pretty informative. Hope the others will follow soon.

www.swisstownguide.ch

Here's one Ursula posted earlier:

Author: Ursula ([email protected])
Date: 02/25/2002, 10:40 am
Message: I just saw a post where somebody has been desperately looking for a Swiss web site. This made me think of this site which is THE search engine which will narrow down a lot, if you're searching something in Switzerland.
Here is the English version of it:

http://www.search.ch/index.en.html

Last September, I spent about 5 days in Sas Fee. I thoroughly enjoy this area in the Saastal Valley region.

I rented a mountain bike from one of the sports shops in Saas Fee. Then I spent the next day riding through the villages of Saas and Saas Allmagel.

I rode up as far as my legs and my lungs would allow up to the lower base of the glacier.

One of the days I spent in the region, I took a nice hike up to the Weissmeisshutte<sp?>. Then walked down by way of Saas Grund. Walking down, I could see the village of Saas Fee on the opposite side and Saas Grund down below. I passed a chapel on the way down with Saas Grund down below.

Anyway, there has been some talk in this forum about saas Fee. So here is the official Sas Fee web site It should have hotel and apartment information as well as hiking maps and suggested hiking routes. It should have a e-mail where a person can send an inquiry.

Here is the web site:

http://www.saas-fee.ch/frame-e.html
Here are some more web sites to see photos of Switzerland:

http://mypage.bluewin.ch/karl.baer/album/pano/

http://mypage.bluewin.ch/karl.baer/

http://www.zimmerberg-sihltal.ch/englisch/

www.swisscastles.ch

http://home.sunrise.ch/hgebha/

These are great. I found them on the Support Group for those who love Switzerland thread.
|
In addition to many listed above, check out www.kandersteg.ch and www.valaistourism.ch. Both contain panoramic views of the respective regions.

Bill

For Swiss weather:

http://www.meteoswiss.ch/
|
Hi Ronda, maybe you'd like to recommend that site at the thread about 'lightweight jacket etc'. Perhaps the inquirer could check the meteoswiss site periodically before setting out. Thanks for bringing your thread back to the top. I have to tell you that I'm really getting restless and, with no Swiss trip in sight, I'm grasping at any thread that takes me there virtually. J.
