Swiss Trains

One thing I forgot to ask when I posted about swiss luggage service....can we leave carry on luggage at the train station for them to store to be picked up later in the day?

Yes nearly every Swiss train station I've been in all have luggage lockers of various sizes and if not lockers some kind of manually staffed left luggage. Lockers cost a few Swiss francs and are IME always available though in some heavily touristed areas like Interlaken at peak periods they could be full I guess - but again I believe there is usually a left-luggage counter. Scour these fab IMo sites on Swiss trains for info to plan a Swiss train trip - www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.seat61.com - try www.sbb.ch - the offidcial Swiss Federal Railways site for perhaps a list of stations with left-luggage facilities - again all do have that I have ever been in of decades of traveling on Swiss trains.

OK - be sure to have some one and 2-Swiss franc coins to use the locker - train station shops and kiosks IME are very aloof to break bills for change without buying something - and sometimes if lockers are in short supply or at least vacant ones then not having the coins needed to grab one can be frustrating.

Oh and the lockers charge per 24-hour periods - fine for you - you can leave stuff in them for I think a max of 72 hours however. Note that manual left-luggage checks charge per item - thus often much more expensive than lockers.
