Swiss rail pass

Hi, I will be travelling to Zurich in September with my family (3 adults and 1 child) and will be there for 3 days. During this stay, we would like to travel by train to nearby attractions (Lucerne, Interlaken, Alps, etc.). Is it worth buying a Swiss Rail Pass or just buy point-to-point tickets, which will be more economical ? Total travel will not be more than 3 days. Looking forward to some help on this.

you can price the point-to point tickets by using the Swissrail site: www.sbb.ch

Sorry Bmenon Dukey1 id right youb really have to do the sums to work out the savings if any. All I would add is that the Swiss Pass includes a lot more than just train tickets, boats, post buses and many of the cities transport systems. You may think you don't need these but if you change your plans they are useful. I find the Swiss Pass good because I sometimes change my mind after I start a journey.

Is there a reason you're staying in Zurich? Lucerne is only an hour or so by direct train to the Zurich airport. If you stay closer to the sights you want to see, you can do less train-traveling.

We bought the Swiss Pass after my husband, using an Excel spreadsheet, computed the relative cost - twice. We couldn't believe it was cheaper, but it was. And it was very convenient; no need to line up for tickets, just hop on. We especially enjoyed the boat rides.

If you got to http://www.budgeteuropetravel.com/ - they have a 2 for one 4 day flexipass promo - even if you don't use the 4th day it will make it more economical to get this. Strongly recommend the trip to Engleberg and the cable care up Mt. Titlis. See the littl echurch in Engleberg - I tis pretty cool. Constance, Germany is also an easy ride from ZRH and right on the Swiss border. A great STrolling Medival City.

I totally agree with the rec for Engleberg and Mt. Titlis and IF you have a pass you'll get a hefty discount on the three-phase gondola ride up to the top and that thing is NOT cheap but definitely worth it. You can easily do that trip in a half day from Lucerne.

The 4-day Swiss pass is also onnthe 2 for 1 special for September, and costs less than a Flex pass. If the child is under 16 ask for a free Family Card with your pass and the child travels with younfor free. Mif the child is 16 or over, get two of the 2 for 1 deals.

Thanks for all the information. I realize that Swiss Pass is much more than just a rail pass and since we are planning to go for cable car rides, I think I should opt for the Pass instead of tickets. By the way, Constance ... is it worth a day trip from Zurich ?
