Swiss Rail Flexi Pass Question

We are considering the 3 Day Swiss Flexi Pass. But I need to know if the advertised 50% discounts for rail travel will apply for a full 30 days after validation, or does it apply only between the 1st and 3rd travel days (which will be less than 30 days).

From what I have read, the 50% discounts would apply between the 1st and 3rd travel days only. So if you use the Pass on day 1 and use the 3rd day on the last day of your travel, then you can use the 50% discount on all of your travel days. If it won't work for you, then try to use the 1st day as close to the beginning of your trip as possible, and save the 3rd day toward the end of the trip. Hope that this helps.

I beg to differ. Just got back from a trip and used the four day pass. It is good for 30 days from validation. We also used the time period for discounts on cable cars and Luzern city bus passes. The SBB folks are well versed on the rules for this pass ( and speak good English) and can help you figure out which travel itineraries are good for the free days and which ones are good for for the 50% deal. Caution - if you get the pass as part of a promotion, there may be additional restricitons, i. e., we got a two for one deal which expired at the end of May, so the one day we traveled in June ( technically within th e 30 day window) was not valid and we paid full fare.

from the MySwitzerland.com site:

On days in between, you can travel for half the fare.

I second what Dukey and KML28 said. That is made very clear on the www.swisstravelsystem.ch website.

I stand corrected - indeed, also on the Budget Europe Travel
Website,
http://www.budgeteuropetravel.com, which BTW is an excellent resource, is the following:

The Swiss Flexipass and the 50% Ticket Discount: For short rail trips where the rail ticket is inexpensive, you may not want to use a travel day on your flexipass; in this case, you can buy the ticket at half-price as long as it is used between the first and last of your free travel days.

Would it make sense to look at the fount of all knowledge re Swiss Passes www.sbb.ch/en the Swiss Rail site

docdan Jun 8th, 2012 04:17 PM

Ah, but the Flexi-pass is only for Non-Swiss residents, so the info is not on the sbb rail site, rather, the Sbb webstie jsut sends you to the above 'swiss travelsystem" link But as you can see above, I have been known to be mistaken.
