Swiss Pass- First or Second Class

Is there a big difference between first and second class on trains in Switzerland? My wife and I would like to travel in comfort, have a seat with a good view, and have enough room for a large piece of luggage each. Normally we would go first class, but I hear second class in Switzerland is very nice and clean as well. Also, we plan on taking the Goldenpass train from Lucerne to Interlaken and then from Interlaken to Montreux. Are we able to use the Swiss Pass on the Goldenpass trains? If so does first class have better views?

Thanks for the help. We are really excited about our trip!

The views are the same in either class, the seating in first is three across the carriage, ie one and then the aisle then 2 seats. Luggage usually goes at the end of the carriage or on the luggage racks above the seats.

There are trains every hour on the Golden Pass route and the Swiss Pass is valid on them. You will change trains in Interlaken Ost and Zweissimmen on the way to Montreux. When the train changes direction at Meiringen on the way to Interlaken you can always change your seats to face the way of travel. The only seats I believe are worth reserving are those in the VIP seats from Zweissimmen to Montreux. Enjoy the trip. If you can sit on the right hand side facing the front from Zweissimmen you have a fantastic view of Montreux and the lake towards the end of the journey.

In July, my husband and I are going from Zurich to Wengen. I purchased first class seats, however, from the timetable it looks like it is only second class. That was a waste of money.

No, there is first class up to Lauterbrunnen on the TRAINS from Zürich to Wengen. After that it is all one class ie Lauterbrunnen to Wengen, which only takes about 20 minutes anyway.

How are you going to Wengen from Zürich? Through Bern or Luzern?

Second class is good enough for me.

There is no class system on the gondolas in the BO.

I am heading on that same route (Zurich to Wengen) in September and plan on buying a 2nd class pass; however, I am planning on upgrading the days that I travel to/from Zurich.
