Swiss or Not?

4 of us are traveling from Paris to Venice in coming sept. I have one night free for this.

Is Swiss train route worth the detour?
If we go through Swiss, it will cost about $270 more than Artesia day train.

If I sleep in Bern, it will cost $80 extra than sleeping in Milan.

Are these options worth the cost?
If so, what route should I take? Lausanne-Brig? Luzern-Lugano? Bern-Brig?
Also I'm confused as to which routes cost extra.

Any help will be much appreciated.

In my opinion, Switzerland is really beautiful, but expensive. It is also worthy of much more time than you have with just one night. Save Switzerland for sometime when you can go there and stay for at least a week.

Good advice. But I'm traveling with my parents. And I'm not sure they are going to come back to Europe in the future.

Obviously even if I sleep in Bern, there isn't going to be time to stay.

So I'm just looking for the best (most scenic) train route between Paris and Venice.

The train between Geneva and Venice is not all that scenic IMO. I've only done the Venice (thru Milan) to Paris as a night train so can't compare the scenery. I definitely would not go to all the trouble and expense just to have 1 day in Switzerland. I just don't see the point.

Does Paris-Nice-Venice have a good scenery compared to Paris-Chambery-Venice?
