Swiss Hotels and Davos

Hi
I will be spending a week in Davos and am struggling to decide whether to book a single room (am travelling alone) or a single in double room. A view of the photos on the hotel websites seem to show fairly small rooms for single vs the larger doubles. The pricing is obviously different from North America where you pay for the room. So my question is whether it is worth paying the approx 50% surcharge for the single in double room.
In the same vein, any suggestions for good hotels in Davos that will allow for easy ski hill access (I will be stepping out of meetings midday to ski..hopefully). Was looking at the Meierhof, Morosani Hotels and the 3 Sheratons
Any help greatly appreciated

Hi MyBro,

I'm sorry, but I'm going to turn your question back on you -- how on earth can WE know what will be a waste of money for YOU?

I can tell you that I travel alone in Switzerland and have taken both the single as well as the double-for-one room. Obviously, the double is larger and makes me feel quite special; but for me, it's worth it only if the room has a view (I've found that single rooms rarely have a view). I don't mind paying more for a view because that's primarily why I travel --

Sorry, haven't been to Davos and can't comment on the hotels you mention.

At least this will top it for you --

I don't know of exact hotels, but I would advise to stay near the Parsens cable car if possible

I am with swandav on this. Views! ... and hopefully quiet for me :-)

sansman is right, the Parsenn is the only access to the Weissfluhjoch skiing area. The Seehof (one of the Sheratons is exactly adjacent to the Parsenn funicular. I would not stay at the Waldhuus (Sheraton) since it is a bit isolated. The others have ski bus stops nearby and it is no deal to take one of those to the Parsenn funicular or one of the other cable cars (Jakobshorn and Rinerhorn recommended).

Thank you. That is helpful...it is very difficult to find general advice on "smaller" towns, although davos isnt exactly a village. With respect to a hotel I am not very price sensitive but do not want to find that I overpaid for services I didnt need or want. I guess I am in the 3/4star range here (5 star doesnt add much in my experience...and unless someone gives a recent recommendation not sure about others)...but definitely will pay for the unique or special experience. Any ideas re getting a room with a view besides calling ahead?
Thanks for the info

Hi Again MyBro,

I've found that hotels that have rooms with a view do make some note of it on their webpage -- usually on the "prices" pages. You'll see something like, "Double with view to the lake" versus "Double with view on the courtyard" or something like that. Sometimes they'll say "Southern exposure" or "view to the xxx mountain."

If the hotel website doesn't have that information, e-mail them and ask specifically.

Good luck!
