Swiss Cottage closed, thieves

The Swiss cottage is closed for the season as of 27 May. They are doing work on the bridge and rethatching the roof.
We tried to visit 2 June and finding it closed decided to walk along the river. There were several cars in the lot and we didn't give it a second thought. When we returned 30 minutes later our car window was smashed. My wifes backback, which she had stashed under the seat and covered with her knitting was taken. $18 US, one credit card (canceled w/i an hour) and the key to our car at the Syracuse ariport was gone.
We were fortunate as we hadn't checked into our B&B in Cahir yet, and our car had our passports, Aran sweaters, and the rest of our luggage in it. Hertz chared us 230E for the window.

The garda who responded couldn't have been nicer. He called Hertz, helped us cover the window with plastic (it was raining on and off that day) and escorted us to our B&B in Cahir.

I don't want to point fingers, but a 'travelors' camp was set up in another part of the park with about 10 or 12 trailers. The garda didn't think they would operate so close to their campsite but....?

I have never posted before but got many good ideas from reading through the Forum, thanks. My favorite day was biking through the gap of Dunlow, great scenery. Other than this, we had a great 11 day visit.

I don't know, it was the name of a private hire car company, but I suppose that hasn't closed.

The Swiss Cottage closed earlier than May 27th. We drove over to Cahir to see it on May 24th and it had been closed for some time already. I was really disappointed, as I thought that it looked really interesting.
We parked in that same lot and also walked down to the bridge and took the walk along the river - no one else was there. I never gave any thought to our car, although we didn't have any possessions in it at the time.

Thanks for posting this.

We’ll be there in August and I was looking forward to visiting the Swiss Cottage. Any idea when they will reopen it? Anyway, we’ll keep our eyes open on where we park, who’s around and make sure no valuables are left in the car.

Unfortunately, the sign that was posted said that it was closed for the remainder of 2007. I was surprised they would close it during the heavily traveled summer months.

That must certainly have been distressing, to say nothing of inconvenient, I'm sorry.

That said, while the nearby encampment may or may not have been relevant in this case, I'm afraid that judging by how many times I've heard stories like this one, there is one place thieves always look to find valuables, and that is under the seats. Thieves might be otherwise stupid, but they know their craft, alas, and better than us, the targets.
