Swiss chocolates - can I bring them back to the US in checked luggage?

Thanks for the info. I know it is expensive because I have done the same thing from Australia and New Zealand. I travel by myself, though, and really don't want to lug my gifts around. The problem is I do like to buy lots of stuff back for family and friends. Any carryon luggage I am allowed to have on the trip back, I'd like to reserve for a book, ipod, food, etc. since it may be severely limited.
