Swiss Berner Oberland: ALPENGLOW, sunset, sunrise and starlight magic??

Hello Switzerland-lovers. Please share your favorite memories of alpenglow, sunrise, sunset, or starlight in the Berner Oberland? Whether you are a poet or not, I'd really enjoy hearing about your beautiful memory? Who did you share the moment with? Where were you? By the way, what is "Alpenglow"? (nothing comes up when I searched the fodors forums.)

My husband and I are getting ready for our June/July trip to gorgeous Switzerland. We are looking forward to 10 days in the awesome Berner Oberland and 3 nights in Lucerne.

Thanks to all the romantics out there!

"Alpenglühen" is the effect after sunset when the valleys are already in the shadow while the last sunrays hit the mountain tops and make them glow in red light.

Alpenglow is perfect from both Wengen and Mürren when (so the locals say) the Jungfrau ('virgin') reddens shamefully because the Mönch ('monk') is so close to her ...

LOL

I.

PS: You are overdoing it, Melissa. Just relax, sit back and see yourself in reality.

Hi Ingo! How's life in Germany? We've had a terribly wet spring season and it looks like we'll be having rain daily again for awhile. Not the whole day but enough to keep your raingear on hand.

Hi schuler! The weather took a turn for the summer last week, but now we're back to chilly and rain (yesterday). Seems the summer will be a mild winter ;-)

Envious of you hearing the cow bells!

Ingo: I'm having fun. I enjoy writing...it's relaxing for me. I also enjoy reading. That's why I enjoy the forums. For a writer, it's impossible to "overdo" writing.

Today I just walked for 12 hours at the fair...I can't believe my toes are still attached to my feet...now THAT is overdoing it!

gram29: I love the image of the moon going across the end of the valley in Lauterbrunnen. I'm enjoying that image in my imagination. Thanks for sharing.

Among our favorite memories of beautiful New Zealand was the astonishing sight of so many millions of stars, visible in the dark night sky because of the absence of city lights. In San Diego we don't see that many stars because of the city lights. That was one of the unexpected (and free!) pleasures of visiting wilderness areas of New Zealand.

I'm looking forward to the beauty I'm expecting to see in Switzerland...and the unexpected moments of beauty that will take me by surprise.
