Swiss Air info?

Does anyone have the latest info on the financial health of Swiss Air? Will they still be operating transatlantic flights from the U.S. in May-June 2002? I guess that's a lot like fortune telling, huh? Many thanks in advance for any info you could provide.

Swiss Air will officially cease being Swiss Air on March 31st. On April 1st, it will be a brand new company -- don't know the official name yet (most likely, Swiss Airlines, so as not to lose its identity), but it is the one that will emerge out of the bankruptcy.

Any word yet if they will still be partnered with the same airlines for frequent flyer miles? (The one I'm wondering about in particular is Midwest Express...currently partnered with Swiss Air.)

I have a Swiss Air ticket to Rome at the end of April, returning to the U.S. in May. I assume it will be honored by the new company or should I be worried?

Mike -- I'm not sure, but I think, at this point in the process, that they would not have sold a ticket for a flight they did not expect to run. It isn't clear what international flights the succesor airline will pick up, however.<BR><BR>Swissair and the basis for the new company, Crossair, are part of the Qualiflier ff group. Sabena was, of course, part of that group also. American Airlines has stopped code sharing with the Chicago-Zurich Swissair flight., so I don't know if the former arrangement on miles still holds. All I know is that I have a lot of Qualiflier miles, and very few airlines left to use them on :(

In April you will basically be flying with the same old company but technically it will be a brand new company -- with no old debt. The funds (for any tickets that are being purchased in advance of flights departing on April 1 and afterwards) are being held as escrowed funds in a separate account to be released to the new company. It's all financial manipulation, but you should have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the input! I took the gamble and bought open-jaw tickets to Italy for May-June from Bestfares. Great price. I just hope the airline is can get us there!

I am also flying Swiss, SFO-CHI-ZUR-MXP in December (code share with American on FF miles). If any of the above posters have completed a flight on Swiss recently, would you care to comment? Thank you.
