Swimming in May in Cinque Terre

Does anyone know if the sea in Cinque Terre is warm enough to swim in Mid May?

Cat--we were in CT in mid-May 2004 and the Sea of Liguria was icy cold.

Too cold, sorry !

Thanks anyway, I'll just have to enjoy the walks and the food.

I wouldn't rule it out. We were there in mid April a few years ago, and it was cool, but we were able to wade in. I would think that mid May might be doable on a warm day. However we are used to swimming in Maine!

We swam in the sea at the CT (as did lots of others) in 2004 at the beginning of May. It was perfectly warm. I would definitely plan for it! It was warmer than many lakes ever get in July/August here in Canada.

What is too cold or too warm depends entirely on your experiences and personal preferences,

It's colder than Florida then - but warmer than the North Atlantic (which I find just fine in the end of May - but Maine IS too cold.)

will be in CT in late June. Do most folks swim at beach then?

I've been there in late June and the sea is lovely and warm. The beaches get a bit crowded in the afternoon when the Italian kids head to the beach after school for water volleyball.
