We just returned from 2 weeks in Italy and we never worried about the water we drank...that may have been a problem years ago but now I don't think so. You do use caution however whenever you want to drink from a fountain...it will usually have a sign as to whether it's drinkable or not.

Wow, Padraig, where did that recommendation come from ???? We have travel extensively through out W. Europe for 15 years and never worried about the water nor had any problems. We did avoid the water in Russia. Personally I do think there is anything to be concerned about. Who carries water in their checked luggage anyway?
