Hello first-time poster, and welcome to Fodor's! :)

Anybody out there have any help to offer here?

I'm sorry but when I went from Copenhagen to Stockholm, we flew. This will take your question to the top of the list however. Hope someone responds. You might do a search for Stockholm, Sweden, Copenhagen, or Denmark and threads should show up under those headings and maybe there will something there to help you.

I've done Stockholm <--> Copenhagen several times by train and by auto. If you want scenic then drive it and wander about.

I agree with hopscotch if you're looking for stops drive and explore by car. The area around the lake is quite pretty and driving in Sweden / Denmark relatively easy.

http://www.vattern.se/ is a good site for planning with links to most of the towns on the lake.

We've found the coast between Jonkoping / Odeshog to be a good mid-point between Copenhagen and Stockholm. Also the Swedish coast north of Malmo is very pretty.
