Sweden in July

We're planning a trip to Sweden in July. Two questions:

Is the Medieval Festival in Visby (first week of August) worthwhile? It would require us to go later than planned, but if it's worth the delay I'd consider it.

Second, I read that glassworks in the Kalmar-Vaxjo region are closed throughout July. Is this really true? Seems odd they'd close in what must be peak tourist season. Does part remain open and just larger production areas close?

(Any other advice related to Sweden is appreciated. We're planning on stops in Stockholm, Mora, Visby and Kalmar.)

Maybe you should try www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree... people there seem to have more knowledge on other places than just venice and paris :)

Hi,
The festival starts August 5th and ends August 12.
http://www.gotland.net/english.asp
The glassworks will NOT be closed in July!!!
Actaully there are extended opening hours during the summer.
Why are you going to Mora? It is not much to do and see there. (only wood)
Have some links to the glassworks:
http://www.glasriket.se
http://www.orrefors.se
http://www.kostaboda.se
I hope this is of any help.
Kaja
Just want to add couple of things. Driving is a breeze. People very polite drivers, and frequently you rent a Volvo. Almost everyone speaks English as soon as they figure out you're American. Only the older people don't. We enjoyed Vadstena, and stayed in the Klosterhotel, a former nunnery. Excellent meals. They make and sell lace in that town. If you go near Vaxjo, a good stop is the Emigrant Museum. I did ancestry research there, and really had fun. Be sure to try cloudberries ;-)

Big thanks for the advice, all.

Kaja, if Mora's not that interesting, is there another city in that region worth visiting? I've heard the area is worth the trek.

Trying one more time. Any suggestions where to stay in Lake Siljan region? The books (including Fodor's) suggest Mora, but your comments make me wonder if it's worth it.
