Sweden- and another thing
 

Every book I read would have me believe that summer in Sweden is always hot and sunny. Is this an accurate reflection of reality?

Some summers it is hot and sunny and others it is not so hot and sunny, much like other countries in northern Europe. Last year it was beautiful weather from Easter until autumn, winter was very mild, this year summer is changeable with some warm sunny days and some rainy days. Couple of weeks ago, it was rather cold, cold enough to want heating on in the house.

No - summer is Sweden is NOT hot and sunny. It is possible to be hot at time but is more likely cool (for summer) although it does tend to be sunny. (When I've been there the highs have been in the low 70s - which I love - but not what I would call hot for summer.)

You can easily google the average weather for each month in Sweden.

We once found August a most comfortable time in Sweden. It was quite a bit warmer than further north in Norway (Lofoten Islands to Tromso) where we also visited on that particular journey. Norway called for sweaters, sweat shirts and zipper jackets, and by the time we reached Sweden by train from Narvik (Norway) overnight to Stockholm, we could ditch the warmer duds.... but still handy to have a jacket or long sleeve shirt/sweater in the evening.

August is already pretty late summer in Scandinavia & can be cool. However I have been there in September with temps into the 80s.

<<No - summer is Sweden is NOT hot and sunny.>> Complete rubbish info as usual. Of course it can be hot and sunny. It's not the tropics nor the climate of NY which is the benchmark for everything it seems, but it can be both hot and sunny meaning high 70s / low 80s.

Spent a summer divided between the two countries you mention Sheila, and the weather was glorious (70-80s, t-shirts). We were told that though summer is short it is generally reasonably reliable. We were there in May, June and July.

I think I may actually be up for this...

The temps have been high 70s/low 80s with sunshine in the past week, at least in Stockholm.

85oF for us in Stockholm for us for a week last July.

There is a saying in Sweden that the Swedish summer is wonderful. I love that day... This summer has been terrible and a lot of people are complaining about the weather. But it's most likely not hot and sunny, depending on hat you mean by hot. Low to mid-70's is probably the normal from Stockholm and South. If it's over that, it's really hot for Sweden.

There was a short spell of hot weather ie over mid 70s this year but mostly it has been mixed, ranging from cold to warm. I'm spending August in Sweden and it ix a mixed bag, compared to last year where is was pretty warm and sunny all summer. But hot like NY it isn't, thankfully.

No that is not true. BUT, when the summer is warm then it is near perfect. I live on the West coast and have a slight breeze and no humidity. It's wonderful. But then it's been very windy and rainy this year too. Thankfully I was in the US all summer where it was 85 degrees everyday! :)
