SUV in Pyrenees

Is a small SUV difficult to maneuver in the Pyrenees? I know some of the roads are curvy. We would like a small SUV if possible, but I don't want to be sorry once we get on those roads.

Define small SUV.

If tour buses can get up the Col du Tourmalet, a small SUV can do it too.

Presuming you are not going to drive fast you still need to look twice at any car rental you are contemplating and consider its center of gravity. A low center of gravity is always much better and this is especially true if you are already thinking of using the car rental to explore off the beaten track areas rather than the main thruways and passes.

Some models of SUVs and small vans do have lower center of gravity but some do not. If you are renting the car online you usually have the opportunity to get some idea of what model and brand of vehicle the rental company is offering in that category. Do some research about it. If when you arrive to pick up the car you don't like the looks of it then ask for a different vehicle.

You never 100% sure what car you will get when booking a hire car.
