Surviving on Croatian food....help
I’m planning a European vacation for next summer, one week on a river cruise and one week on my own in Croatia. However, I have a dilemma...I’m an extremely finicky eater. I’m not huge on veggies and eat mostly chicken, steak and pork, typical American fare. Will I be able to survive there on the types of food they eat, meaning will I be able to find things that suit my diet or will I pretty much be out of luck? Thanks everyone.

You will absolutely love Croatian food. The cuisine is heavy on all the things you say you love. Just tell the waiter to leave the veggies in the kitchen and order the meat dishes on the menu. You can ask this in English, as almost everyone under the age of 50 speaks the language, which has been mandatory in the schools for decades. Here are some images:

Chicken, steak, and pork are typical fare in a LOT of countries

You will survive on Croatian food, and, when hungry, even finicky eaters will eat something they don't like before they starve to death, but don't expect the Croats to jump through hoops.
Restaurant staff in Croatia does not rely on tips for their salary, capricious clients insisting on getting their way and being difficult to please, will probably not enjoy the service experience. A simple Google search will give you an idea of what to expect of Croatian cuisine, It would be a boring world if vanilla was the only ice cream flavor. |
Most of Croatians like seafood only if pig falls into the sea. So you ll be fine.

I loved Croatian food. Some of the best I've had anywhere including the octopus which I know you won't eat. They have pizza everywhere and it is really good. Also meat and potatoes are great. You won't go hungry!

There is lots of Italian influence in Croatian coastal areas and the islands too.

So.. you just eat meat?

We loved all the Adriatic seafood. Don’t you ever eat seafood?

Pizza is always ubiquitous in Croatia. If you eat pizza, then you'll always find something to eat.
