Survey Says: Cagliari or Palermo?
If you had to choose, would you rather go to Cagliari or Palermo?
We've never been to either place (we= two young 30-y-o's), we're looking for a final stop after Capri. We had been thinking about Croatia, however, by the time we get there on trains/ferries, I think we'll have spent the better part of our trip traveling and won't have much time. That's why I started looking for something closer that we can reach by plane from Naples.
So, if it were up to you, would you choose Cagliari or Palermo, and why? As much as we love siteseeing and historical sites, we'd be equally happy to just sit on a beach. We'll be in Capri for a friend's wedding, so a little R & R wouldn't hurt at this point during the trip before we head back to London, and I ultimately come back to California.
Many thanks!

An odd posting, because the two destinations are so significantly different, in terms of importance for tourism, architecture, art, archeology and history. I would say go to neither unless you've read up on both and focus more on what you intend to accomplish from the trip and what your goals/expectations are. You certainly can stay much closer to Capri for R&R (e.g. take a hydrofoil to Positano or Amalfi or Sorrento).

I'll read up on them more to learn about the differences. This was just a quick conversation this morning, so I decided to post before I was able to hop online and research. We're not interested in the Amalfi Coast. The few days on Capri will be more than enough for me, and we want to go elsewhere before going back to London.

Palermo is one of Italy's largest cities. Cagliari is definitely much smaller. Palermo boasts an amazing theatre (TEATRO MASSIMO) as well as a great park with thousand-year old trees. Near Palermo there is gorgeous Cathedral (inside it's just marvellous) which is the Monreale Cathedral. It's easily reachable from Palermo by bus. In the Palermo area there is a nature reserve (parco dello Zingaro) where you can take a walk, enjoy a mesmerizing scenery and stop along the way in the gorgeous bays where you'll find blue clean and beautiful water. In that part of sicily there is also Scopello (I think part of the movie Ocean twelve was shot there)That is a beautiful spot on the sea as well. Do you know that Sicily also hosts some gorgeous greek temples?

Wow, thanks Feda! I just passed along your info to my friend, as we're in the process of determining where we'd like to go. I appreciate your offer regarding more information about this region, as neither of us have ever been. Once we do a bit more research, I'll let you know if we have more questions. I appreciate it!
