Been there; done that!

I prefer the North of Spain: Vizcaya, Cantabria, the Principality of Asturias and Galicia. The beaches there are so much nicer than those on the Costa del Sol; the cuisines are rich and varied (seafood and hearty meals like Favada Asturiana or Cocido de Liebana). And there's the Picos de Europa: the mountains where the Reconquista began at Covadonga in Asturias.

In Galicia, Santiago de Compostela, is where the soul of Spain resides.

I was in Madrid (and Segovia, Salamanca and Toledo) last July and it was NOT TOO HOT. Sure it hit the low 90s for a bit each day, but did cool off at night, and was quite nice actually. All my (budget) hotels had AC. I don't know what the person who mentioned no AC in Spain was talking about - most stores and restaurants, and certainly museums, were all air conditioned. I'm sure Andalucia is quite a bit warmer but I still think the longer days would push me to choose July over Jan or Feb. I was in Andalucia in March and it was delightful.

Our trip was in July. It was hot and I am used to 90's with humidity. Seville was the only city that was very hot for us but as above the hotels and restaurants we were in had a/c. The excitement of the trip far surpassed the sometimes hot temperatures. Love the long days of summer light!

I just checked Eva's web page and discovered she'll be taking her "Santos y Señas" show to NYC at City Center on Feb. 16-17. Will be in D.C. in two days, Feb. 14-15, then to the Jerez flamenco festival on March 1 and in Paris from April 9-13 and back to Granada for the Intl Music and Dance Festival on June 27.

She's really a "must see", I think, for the hard core flamenco fans. Thanks for the heads up!

That was the same program we saw too. Is that the one you saw?
I really liked the contrast with her estilo "antiguo" and some of her modern things. And again what amazing moves & feet that woman has.

Also loved her retro hair with the waves very 30s in one of the numbers, and also liked her costumes. The lighting was rather dark pools of light very dramatic, but I have to admit I was ready for one or two numbers to have a bit more light. But overall great. Not the type of show for everyone but I still loved it. As you said for hardcore flamenco lovers (and really NOT all that hardcore really.

I know you have a flamenco community there in Seattle with the Carmonas there in Seattle. I know some of the artists from many years ago.

Thanks for the update I would love to see Sara Baras too I know you are fans of hers.
