Surrey stay in Michelham
Hello, are taking a week to relax in the English countryside in the middle of July. So far we are going to Frome for 3 days, and from there probably a day trip to Bath, a visit to Stonehenge, and a day just roaming around in the village sipping tea. On the way back, we are hoping to stop somewhere and stay in an inn for 2 nights, preferably less than an hour from Heathrow where we will drop the car for our departure. I found The Running Horses in Michelham, which looks great, but not sure if there is anything there to see or do that warrants an extra day. We are certainly not looking for anything too exciting, a lovely walk, a good meal....
Was also looking into an apartment rental in Shere, which looks like a lovely little village. Anyone who can tell me a little more about that area? |
Do you mean Mickelham by any chance? If so, it is not far from RHS Wisley which is worth at least half a day.
|
Shere is a lovely little village but it is well discovered by tourists, difficult to park, difficult to get a foot inside a pub, that's my memory of it from visiting a few years ago.
|
I DO mean Mickleham!! Thank you for the RHS Wisley recommendation. Do you think there is a closer/better place to stay at than Mickleham?
|
Closer to what - Heathrow?
Mickleham is only about 25 miles from LHR but that could take 90 minutes depending on the time of day/traffic on the M25 Shere is about the same distance, same drive time. If you want a quicker drive to LHR consider Windsor or up the Thames in one of the riverside towns. Marlow, Maidenhead, Henley, etc. |
