Supermarkets in Tuscany
Can anyone give me the name of some supermarkets in Tuscany - I need to be sure that some things my daughter needs can be bought in Italy or whether I'll need to take them with me.
|
Where in Tuscany do you need to find a supermarket?
|
There seem to be "Co-op" stores in most communities there.
|
We'll be near San Gimignano, but can get to Florence or Pisa easily as we will have a car.
|
There is large super mercado just out of Poggibonsi on the road to San Gim. It is not open on Sunday.

Everything you can get here you can get there. We tend to take our almost empty everything so we can resupply in Italy. Crest toothpaste with an Italian label is useful, and a souvenier for a little while back here.
Supermarkets t end to look like supermarkets the world over. While there were fewer there, they were not rare. Seems to me that most of them are about where you would expect to find them here - easily visible from the main roads and usually at junctions. We never had a problem finding one when we wanted one. |
As someone said, there are Co-ops all over the place. You can also find some pretty interesting toiletries in the pharmacies and small sundries stores in the towns. We were sad to use the last of our Italian toothpaste..and I bought perfume in Montepulciano I am still trying to find in the states. Shopping in places like Siena and Montepulciano will certainly afford you the opportunity to buy sundries you will (and probably she will) enjoy for certain. I doubt you will have to head back to Florence for anything. How old is she and what does she need?
|
BTW-there is a great pharmacy in Montepulciano across the street from the church with St. Catherine's feet..look for the Green Crosses in Tuscany you will find everything a girl could need(tampons, tylenol etc)

There is a good supermarket just outside the city walls of Florence,
(in suburbia) called Esselunga. There is also a good Ikea store also in the outskirts. I'm sorry I can't remember the exact directions, I hopped a local bus but the locals will tell you. |
There is a large Co-op supermarket in San Gimigniano, just outside the main city gate. There's lots of signposts and parking - you can't miss it.
